Your Wishes

We understand that noting your own wishes down in advance often gives peace of mind and helps others to know what you would like to be arranged.

Some people may not be in a position to pay for their own funeral in advance. However, they may prefer to have the opportunity to formally specify their ideas and wishes for their own funeral, without pre-payment, so as to assist their family and friends with decision making prior to the difficult time they will experience in the future.

You may want to bear in mind, most services at a crematorium are only about 20 or 30 minutes in duration, unless an extended appointment is booked at the time of making funeral arrangements. Therefore, your wishes outlining the content and duration of your own funeral should be completed in writing, must be signed, witnessed and kept up to date. If possible, your written wishes should be kept securely with your Will.

In terms of the details to include,  we suggest that you make it clear whether you want to be buried or cremated; whether you want a religious or non-religious service; the type of funeral service i.e. traditional or modern, your choice of flowers, music, poetry, readings and how you would like to be remembered etc.

It is also a good idea to give a copy of the document to your nearest relative or the person who will probably be responsible for making your funeral arrangements. If your Will is lodged with a solicitor for safe-keeping there may be a short delay in gaining access to it at a time when decisions about the funeral need to be made.

Please do not be afraid to contact us – we are here to help  at any time of life.
