Three local community projects supporting children, families and people experiencing bereavement have received a financial boost thanks to the second round of Trafford Lowe Funeral Services’ 2026 Community Assistance Programme.
The latest funding awards have been made to organisations making a meaningful difference in Alfreton, Somercotes and the surrounding area.
Supporting Bereavement, Wellbeing and Young People
Bridging Minds Collective has received £494 to help provide funded bereavement therapy for people who may otherwise struggle to access support. The grant will fund 30 face-to-face therapy sessions and 14 online therapy subscriptions. The organisation works with local people and families affected by SEND, mental health and bereavement challenges.
Lilly Street Lions FC Under 8’s has been awarded £500 to support its newly established grassroots football team. The funding will help cover league fees and provide hooded tops for young players, ensuring they can train and play comfortably throughout the season. The club offers children a safe, welcoming environment where they can stay active, build confidence and develop new skills.
Supporting Communities has received £500 to deliver five healthy eating and wellbeing sessions at Ironville Railway Carriage Youth Club. The programme will give young people practical skills in food preparation and budgeting while promoting positive lifestyle choices and emotional wellbeing.
Cheques were presented by Funeral Director Doug Atherton and Community Fund judging panel member Francesca Spencer-Fox.
Doug said:
“It’s wonderful to be able to support three very different projects that are all making a positive contribution to their local communities.
“From providing vital bereavement support and opportunities for children to enjoy grassroots football, to helping young people develop skills that can improve their health and wellbeing, these grants will make a real and practical difference.”
Francesca added:
“One of the great things about the Community Fund is discovering the fantastic work that is happening right on our doorstep. These groups are responding directly to the needs of local people and we are delighted to be able to help them continue and develop their work.”
Investing in Local Communities
The Community Assistance Programme was launched by the teams at Trafford Lowe’s Alfreton and Somercotes funeral homes in February 2026 to support community projects benefiting people living within a three-mile radius of the two branches.
Funding is available to non-profit organisations whose work supports one or more of the programme’s key themes: Health, Education, Employment Opportunities, and Poverty or Social Deprivation.
These latest awards follow the programme’s first round of funding earlier this year, which supported Mickley Community Volunteer Group, The Catch Up Club and OSCARI.
Trafford Lowe Funeral Services remains committed to supporting the communities it serves and helping local organisations continue their valuable work.
