Three inspiring community organisations in Alfreton and Somercotes have received funding through the first round of Trafford Lowe Funeral Services’ 2026 Community Fund programme.
The fund was created to support projects making a positive difference to local people, and this round of funding will help the successful organisations continue their valuable work within the community.
Supporting local community projects
The following organisations have each received funding:
Mickley Community Volunteer Group received £480 to help fund room hire for its weekly Welcoming Spaces café at Mickley Community Centre. The free café provides hot food and drinks, friendly conversation, benefits and budgeting advice, craft activities and games, helping to reduce social isolation for people of all ages.
The Catch Up Club was awarded £500 to support a range of activities, including crafts and social sessions for families of children with special educational needs, carers, personal support assistants and service users. The group provides a welcoming and supportive environment where people can connect and build friendships.
OSCARI received £500 towards improving its facilities by converting an existing kitchen area into a dedicated food storage space for its community pantry, while also creating a small kitchenette to make the building more functional and welcoming for visitors.
Celebrating local impact
Funding awards were presented by Doug Atherton, Funeral Director at Trafford Lowe Funeral Services, alongside Francesa Spencer-Fox, a member of the Community Fund judging panel.
Speaking about the awards, Doug Atherton said:
“We are delighted to be able to offer support to these caring projects in the local area. Both groups are making a real difference to people’s lives, providing much-needed, meaningful support to local people.”
Francesa Spencer-Fox added:
“We’re proud to highlight the positivity that’s happening right on our doorstep and are looking forward to seeing these projects continue and grow.”
